July Photo Zine

Should come as no surprise that the July photo zine is a monochrome affair. It's just my mood this winter. Most cities look better in B+W, and Melbourne comes up a treat. All that winter light making long shadows.

50mm Prime for under $100

I love a bargain, and this 50mm F1.8 Neo by TT Artisan is that and more. It's not perfect, but it's totally worth the US$89 price tag if you have a mirrorless Sony, Nikon or L-mount camera. TT Artisan set out to make a super cheap 50mm prime, and stripped out not only the aperture ring, but the focus ring too. It's not fancy, but does deliver some really lovely photos full of contrast and sharpness.
If you've never had a chance to try a very fast prime lens, and were reluctant to spend the money, then this lens is worth a closer look. Very affordable, and very fun.

AF 50mm F1.8 Neo from TT Artisan

TT Artisan have made an amazingly affordable lens for mirrorless full frame cameras that opens the door to experimenting with fast primes on a budget. This lens is available for Sony, Nikon and Leica mounts.

Tamron 12-20mm F2.8 for Sony + Nikon

Tamron just released this new lens and it's a winner. I love this lens. Full frame and fully wide, this lens is sharp and straight and bright and just a wonderful bit of design. Tamron are doing really good things in the zoom space these days. I hope to test this lens in the Arctic next winter, and chase auroras. Until then, I have been chasing shadows on the streets of Melbourne, as seen in the July zine.
