Winter Cabin With Shellie

Cabins in the remote parts of Arctic Scandinavia have held a special place in my heart for a long time. For more than a decade the snow and landscapes and people and reindeer and auroras of the north have drawn me back. It's not just my second home, but Shellie's as well. And this month she got to announce the release of her new cookbook, which brings together the beautiful locations of the north with Shellie's extensive experience making gourmet moments on the workshops.

This is also the first international cookbook that I have photographed entirely myself. Might seem strange that such a talented photographer as Shellie would let someone else take over that role, but she was busy writing recipes and delivering the dishes. "The Winter Cabin Cookbook" being released in the UK, USA, Europe, Australia and NZ. The first copies are on shelves at the end of October.

Aurora Residency

One person has dropped out of the Aurora Workshop for January 2027, so get in quick if you want a really unique and wonderful experience in the Arctic. You'll also get to see first hand some of Shellie's recipes and a few special locations we used for the cookbook :)

This is a unique offering with private cabins and a very quiet corner of Norway to ourselves, far from the chaos of Tromsø and Lofoten. We have stunning scenery, lovely locals and lots of ideal aurora conditions in the Arctic Polar Night.

A Very Long Chat

I have a few new videos up on my YouTube channel this month. In particular I wanted to make a longer video that walks beginner photographers through a range of ideas, focused on the idea of "When you don't know what you need to know". I also released a video about "Buying The Camera You Love" instead of being swayed into whatever the marketing people tell you, plus we get to spend some quality time with Ian Rolfe as he explains the joy of shooting ultra-wide angle with a 6mm for MFT cameras.

I have always struggled with the internet as a place to share my photography. Sitting with a photo should be an experience that goes beyond the image itself. YouTube has proved to be a surprisingly enjoyable space to share my images, and thoughts on the craft.

The Himalayas Are Calling

Bookings are open for Bhutan in December 2027. Seems like a long long way away but time goes fast these days. We do have places for Nepal later this year as well, subject to availability with our accommodation in the mountains. The Zine in August

My final note here is that I haven't completed my August edition of the Zine, but I'll have a fresh release very soon. I have a lot of thoughts to share, indeed too many, and needed a little more time to see how the pieces fit together. In the meantime, we have lots of great editions from recent months to enjoy.
